JOHANNESBURG South Africa’s Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas is becoming investigated by the Hawks elite law enforcement device as portion of a probe into allegations of corruption at condition-owned South African Airways (SAA), the City Press newspaper reported on Sunday.
As portion of the probe into SAA, the device is investigating allegations that Jonas used his political influence to protected U.S. aircraft company AAR Corp contracts to source elements and tyres to the condition airline, the newspaper cited three unidentified Hawks resources and 1 SAA supply as saying.
Treasury spokeswoman Yolisa Tyantsi declined to remark. Spokespeople for Jonas and the SAA did not instantly reply to requests for remark.
Hawks spokesman Hangwani Mulaudzi was quoted by City Press as saying there was an investigation into allegations of corruption at SAA but it was plan not expose names of these becoming probed. Mulaudzi did not answer phone calls from Reuters.
AAR Corp could not be attained for remark. The company was quoted by City Press as denying any wrongdoing. “AAR conducts its enterprise with the highest ethical and authorized benchmarks,” a unidentified spokesman was quoted as saying.
Jonas has been an outspoken critic of government corruption and he opened divides in just the ruling African Nationwide Congress final yr when he claimed businessmen mates of President Jacob Zuma claimed they could protected him the finance ministry career.
Zuma and the Indian Gupta family members deny any wrongdoing.
