BERLIN German Chancellor Angela Merkel claimed on Friday she was anxious about Israel’s building of settlements in the occupied West Bank, which she claimed was undermining progress toward a two-state resolution for Israel and the Palestinian territories.
Israel is building settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem – seized by Israel in a 1967 war and occupied for virtually fifty a long time – where Palestinians want to build their state and capital.
“As just before, I see no reasonable different to the target of a two-state resolution,” Merkel explained to reporters just before keeping talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Berlin.
On the situation of the settlements, she extra: “I am extremely anxious about developments in the West Bank, which are primary to an erosion of the basis for a two-state resolution.”
